The Power of Everything!

The other day my daughter, Ella, walked up to me with what looked like an ordinary rock in her hand.  Extending the gift as if it were a diamond she said “This crystal is for you mommy.  It has the power of love.”  She then showed me another “crystal” and told me “This is my crystal…it has the power of EVERYTHING!”  She went on to explain to me that everyone actually has all the powers – love, kindness, beauty, truth and everything else! She told me that we couldn’t actually see the powers, but we could feel them when we shut our eyes and concentrated. She said that the “powers” were always inside us and that the crystal only helps us to remember.

What would the world around us look like if every human being stopped every once in a while to connect to and feel the power of love inside themselves! What would it look like if we all believed we had the power of “everything” inside ourselves! What if like this precious 5 year old we saw the power of “everything” in each other?

The Power Of Everything!

That would mean that those in pain have the power to heal and that those who work with them have the power to love and support them in their path. This may seem like a very simple, intuitive thought to some, but I am pretty sure not everyone gets it!  If they did there would be no infighting between the healthcare disciplines.  Legislative bodies around the country would no longer have healthcare professionals lobbing to restrict each other based on fear one may encroach on the others market share. Ego driven therapists who “heal” their clients would become a thing of the past.  Instead we would exist in a world where the client’s power to heal themselves is honored, a world where all therapists (doctors, chiropractors, surgeons, etc.) function in the role of facilitator and educator.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe most all health professionals are well intended and desire to help clients in their path to health and wellness.  I just think sometimes therapists can drink our own Kool-Aid. As a result, we can start to think that it is “we” who are doing the healing, when in essence the client arrives with all the “power” and our job is to support, educate and care for them as they find the “crystal” inside their “rock” that reminds them exactly how powerful they have always been.
